Now that Halloween is over and the kids are back at school, pumpkins and costumes will quickly be replaced with trees and toys as retailers prepare for the busiest season of them all. To get the best of the bargains and to help spread the cost, the key is to be organised.
Black Friday bargains
Friday 23 November is Black Friday, the day following the American celebration of Thanksgiving, and more recently a day when retailers tempt us with ‘incredible’ deals and deep discounts. From electrical items to bikes and scooters, whether you think it’s a marketing gimmick or not, it is definitely worth a look to see if there are any bargains to be had.
Cyber Monday
Just four days after Black Friday follows Cyber Monday, which this year falls on Monday 26 November, right before payday. Originally unconnected to Black Friday it was a day when people panicked that Christmas was around the corner so they went online shopping while at work. Retailers have capitalised on this with another day of unmissable offers – resulting in the busiest day for online shopping.
Make a list and check it twice
In advance of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, make sure that children (big and small) have written their lists to Santa. Research the items on the lists to find out the current retail price and the shop or retailer that is offering the best price. Think about what you want to buy and how much you’re willing to spend. Does it have to be a particular brand or can you be flexible?
On Black Friday and Cyber Monday strike early either online or by hitting the high street to see if any of the items on your list have been heavily discounted. Don’t be tempted to add items to your basket that aren’t on your list – just because it’s been promoted at 75% off. The key is to buy items you actually want at an impressive price.
Remember:
- Know who to buy for
- Know your budget and the maximum you want to pay
- Do your homework
- Don’t be distracted
